Infanterie-Regiment 66 fought in most of the great battles on the western front: Mons, Le Cateau, the Marne, Arras, the Somme, the French offensive on the Chemin des Dames, the Kaiserschlacht in March 1918, the German offensive on the Chemin des Dames, the Second Marne, the Siegfried Line. It continually demonstrated the highest levels of tactical skill. This book is by a soldier and academic, Dr Otto Korfes, who served as an officer in the regiment and then became a historian in the Reichsarchiv, the repository of the German Army's Great War documents. Korfes consulted the regimental war diaries and after action reports, as well as makinng extensive use of first hand accounts.
